EKKA continues with a new name

On June 12, changes to the Statutes of the Education and Youth Board entered into force. According to the changes, the Estonian Quality Agency for Higher and Vocational Education (EKKA) will henceforth be called the Estonian Quality Agency for Education (HAKA).

The new name expresses the expansion of our contribution to both continuing education and general education. Of course, we will continue with all previous activities, including the quality assessments in higher and vocational education.

“Changing the name is always somewhat unexpected and attracts attention,” commented HAKA director Heli Mattisen. “At the same time, the substantive developments that require this name change have already taken place for a long time. Now, we are just aligning our name with what we’ve been doing. HAKA is becoming a promoter of the quality in the field of education as a whole.” This is also illustrated in the agency’s updated mission statement: “We empower educational institutions and other partners in promoting the quality of learning and teaching and supporting learner development.”

The transition to the new name will take place gradually. During the summer, we will update our guides, logo and website to start our activities with a fresh look in the fall.
